      Description

Many passages in the ESV begin with a note that should act as parallel passage links.

These have been inadequately analyzed for the conversion to OSIS.

Consider one example, the note at the start of Matt.24.1.

As expected, there are links to Mark 13 and Luke 22, but there is also a self referential link to Matt 24.

The problem can be better understood by examining one of CrossWay's own ESV Bible apps. e.g. I have their iOS app installed on my iPad Mini.

From that it's clear that the note has a first part and a second part. The first part gives the scope of the current passage. The second part lists all the parallel references, which may be a single verse or a range.

The problem is that the conversion to OSIS was done without due recognition of this feature in the ESV source text. So we ended up with a flattened note in which the current passage scope is included as if it were a cross reference to somewhere else in the ESV Bible.

In most front-ends, this makes these notes unwieldy to use for practical purposes.
