      Description

      Dear Developers,

please let me introduce myself first. My name is Zoltán Kovács. I am a mathematician but work with SWORD regularly to do research on the Greek texts. I wrote two applications already that are based on SWORD: https://github.com/kovzol/bibref and https://github.com/kovzol/lxx. To communicate some results of my work I decided to try porting SWORD for the web via Emscripten (https://emscripten.org/). This would be helpful to have an offline version of SWORD available on a website, embedded in a web page. So I would be able to write a blog on my research and allow the readers to directly reproduce the investigation in a web browser, independently from an external SWORD installation.

I found an unofficial mirror of the SWORD SVN repository on GitHub, and I forked it at https://github.com/kovzol/crosswire-sword-mirror. I managed to add a minor change to have a working build (see the last commit), after I added the zlib folder from the released version 1.9.0 because it seems it is missing from the Git repository. (I guess it is not present in the SVN repository, either.)

The required steps to build SWORD via Emscripten are outlined in the file https://github.com/kovzol/bibref/blob/master/Makefile. This explains already a proof-of-concept mini application as well. In the next days I plan to continue work on this and provide a full application that is based on SWORD. Now the first working web version of bibref is available at https://matek.hu/zoltan/bibref-2022Jan10, you may want to try it by entering lookup LXX Genesis 1:1 in the popup window and press ESC twice.

Please consider pulling my two commits from GitHub (https://github.com/kovzol/crosswire-sword-mirror/commits/trunk) on the SVN repository.

      Best regards, Zoltán
