These two examples are taken from the Tok Pisin Bible. They are both chosen as examples from part way through a chapter, so as to avoid confusing or complicating matters with similar instances that also occur at the start of a chapter Example 1 (Genesis 2) illustrating a section title within a verse. \v 4 Long dispela pasin tasol, God i wokim skai na graun na olgeta samting. \s God i wokim gaden bilong Iden \p Taim God, Bikpela i mekim kamap skai na graun, \v 5 i no gat diwai na gras samting i kamap long graun yet, long wanem, em i no salim ren i kam daun yet. Na i no gat man bilong wokim gaden. Example 2 (Genesis 21) illustrating a section title between two verses. \v 8 Na pikinini i kamap bikpela. Na long de em i lusim susu Abraham i mekim bikpela kaikai. \s Abraham i rausim Hagar wantaim Ismael \p \v 9 Hagar, dispela meri bilong Isip, em i bin karim wanpela pikinini man bilong Abraham. Na long wanpela de Sara i lukim dispela pikinini i pilai i stap. OBSERVE THE ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE In example 1, there is some verse text on the same line as the \p tag. In example 2, there is no such text. The \p tag is followed immediately by a new line and the next verse tag. Below are the corresponding outputs from usfm2osis.py Example 1 (OSIS output):

Long dispela pasin tasol, God i wokim skai na graun na olgeta samting.

God i wokim gaden bilong Iden

Taim God, Bikpela i mekim kamap skai na graun, i no gat diwai na gras samting i kamap long graun yet, long wanem, em i no salim ren i kam daun yet. Na i no gat man bilong wokim gaden. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY CORRECT! (verse 4 ends after the second half of the verse text, which comes after the section title) Example 2 (OSIS output):

Na pikinini i kamap bikpela. Na long de em i lusim susu Abraham i mekim bikpela kaikai.

Abraham i rausim Hagar wantaim Ismael

Hagar, dispela meri bilong Isip, em i bin karim wanpela pikinini man bilong Abraham. Na long wanpela de Sara i lukim dispela pikinini i pilai i stap. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY INCORRECT! (verse 8 should end before the section title) THIS IS A TOP LEVEL DESIGN ERROR, NOT MERELY A MINOR SOFTWARE BUG! The consequences of this design error are very serious. The incorrect placement of the verse eID milestone insulates the title from being properly handled by osis2mod. This is not a deficiency in SWORD with regard to the title transformation using subType="x-preverse", or more recently by the method described in the wiki page osis2mod: Content prepended to the current verse is marked with

.......
Making that transformation irrespective of where the eID milestone is placed just makes things even worse. Module developers should not need to make that transformation themselves. It's something designed into osis2mod, but that assumes the title is already in the correct place. NB. The type of title (section) is not the primary significant point. The same mistake can occur with other types of title.
